KingCon 2014

KingCon, Durham City’s first geek convention, was on October 12th. I was super nervous but it turned out to be for no reason, as I had a great time and I did quite well! The thing I worried about most was not having enough stuff, but in the end I didn’t need to worry.
Here’s my stuff, all laid out on my bed the night before the con:

SomeΒ new stuff and a few older pieces too.Β Plenty of variety! Here’s my table at Durham’s Gala Theatre:

I ended up being so busy I couldn’t take any more pictures, but by the end of the day my table was looking very bare! My ever-popular mushroom magnets did well, as did the Pokeball badges. I said goodbye to the Phoenix, Snorlax/Tails and Alisia Dragoon, as well as the majority of the small stitchings. I also sold some of my handmade jewellery too!
There were two things that happened that were really awesome. First, I ran out of business cards, which I can only assume is good. Hope some custom work comes my way from that! The other thing is that when people approached my table and saw that the items were actually stitched, they would smile and say things like “that’s so cool” and “awesome”. I always worry that people won’t like what I stitch but I’m glad I made what I did as they were quite popular!

Anyway, that was KingCon, my first foray into the world of conventions. I’m really looking forward to doing another one, but first I have a load of jewellery to make for a couple of fairs I’m doing with my friend Lynn. Will be posting about my jewellery soon, as well as my finished Nei!

Sprite Stitch Challenges

I know, I’m terrible at blogging. I’ve gotten rather lazy about it (like many things) and if I wasn’t putting it off I was forgetting it. But here I am now with a small roundup of some of the things I’ve finished in the past few months.

I’m going to start with my Skyrim quilt square. I meant to post some progress on this for the IHSW recently but…eh. Anyway, I have since finished and sent it! So, here’s a picture. πŸ™‚

Shrine of Azura ~Skyrim~

It was the only square I could manage this year unfortunately (due to my illness among other things), but I made several patterns for other people to use.

Now, a collection of my recent Sprite Stitch challenge entries.

March – Minimalism

Ecco the Dolphin Minimalist

Super Metroid Minimalist

These are Ecco and Super Metroid. I went super minimalist with my two small entries. I really wanted to show how minimalist you could go – the Ecco one is the best example of that!

April – Sampler Stitch-A-Long

Sprite Stitch Band Sampler

Sampler Shot 2

We had so much fun with this. We all designed bands, which were voted on – the top ten were put into my Hat and three were selected with Random magic. The last band was our own choice out of all the ones entered. I think we actually ended up with over 100 designs!
The final bands were: Super Mario Kart, DDR and Journey. We stitched one per week, and used any extra time to add borders and things. In the last week I chose a Mystic Quest band designed by merrywether, finished up my border and stitched personal things in between the bands. They sort of ended up as bands themselves! One of my favourite projects to do and it turned out nicely. πŸ™‚

May – Black Mage Holiday

BMH on holiday

I left the challenge for May in the capable hands of my good friend starrley while I had a holiday, and the challenge was all about that. Where would a Black Mage go on holiday? What would s/he do? There were some awesome entries and I loved all of them. I wasn’t planning to enter but at the end of the challenge I got dressed up in my Black Mage outfit (that I made for the FF concert back in November) and snoozed under my Hat. So, this is me on holiday!

June/July – Colouring Book

Akatosh Sequin Art

The main reason I took a “holiday” was to set up this challenge. It wasn’t easy to get together a bunch of images and make them into outlines but I think I did alright. There were images from Zelda, Pokemon, Portal and more. I really wanted to do something different so I used the Akatosh symbol from Elder Scrolls and went mad with sequins. The result is what you see above. Over 2000 gloriously dazzling laser hologram sequins! Very fun to do, if somewhat fiddly when it comes to sewing them on, but I’d love to do more!

And that’s it so far. The current challenge for August is all about bling, so if I have time I may whip something up. I have plenty of UFOs to pick up too! I also have to prepare for next month, when it’s time again for the Mini Swap! πŸ™‚

Thank you for reading (if you made it this far) and hopefully it won’t be too long until my next post! πŸ™‚

IHSW May – reporting!

Hello friends! Long time no post πŸ™‚
I hope you are all well and crafting, and that you enjoyed your IHSWs!

And on that note, let’s get down to it, shall we?

This weekend, I mostly worked on my quilt square for Sprite Stitch. It’s the Shrine of Azura from Skyr– crap, it’s raining and I have washing out…must go get it! — ahem, from Skyrim.
Here’s how it looked on Friday:

Azura WIP 1

And here’s how it was on Monday:

Azura WIP 2
Lots of blues in this piece. Not as many colours as I normally go for, but should be nice anyway. Better order some supplies to get it finished!

Oh, it stopped raining. How annoying! *shakes fist at clouds*

I also did a little work on Rika. I have been forgetting to take photos when I do work on her, so I don’t have a before and after for you this time. So I’ll just show you what she looks like right now! πŸ˜€

Rika WIP 12

I added most of the pink a couple of weeks ago, so at the weekend I was really finishing that off and working on the skin tones.

And that was pretty much my weekend, except there were a few orcs and quite a lot of falling asleep.

I’m going to do a catch up post very soon, because I do have a bunch of stuff to upload and talk about. I really need to motivate myself to post more often, but I just seem to forget a lot!

Anyway, thank you for looking and see you again soon!

Oops! :)

This is totally the tomorrow I meant. πŸ˜€
I’m really sorry! I’ll be honest, I haven’t much felt like posting, or doing a lot of anything recently. But I did promise a report on February’s IHSW, so let me start with that!

I spent most of the IHSW weekend working on my second entry for the Portrait challenge over at Sprite Stitch. I kind of neglected to take photos at the right times over the IHSW to show my progress…but I’m happy to say the portrait is now finished so let me show you that instead! πŸ˜€

Valena ~Skyrim~

This is my Skyrim character, Valena. Or as I’m now calling her, Creepyface. Her face has been watching me for several days as she’s been coming together and has given me a few scares in the night!
Ahem…anyway, she’s 14,411 (I think) stitches and 38 colours. She’s in an 8×10″ frame which I have painted black with red trim, for those of you that are in the know regarding Elder Scrolls it was meant to look sort of Daedric-y πŸ™‚
I’m very pleased it’s finally finished though. I wanted to do something unusual for the challenge.

I also worked on something else unusual. My brother got an idea in his head to customise a mouse for a friend and wanted me to stitch the top piece. He did a design and I gave him plastic canvas, which he cut to shape. So I stitched the design for him, here it is:

LOZ Mouse

It says “Loz”, which is some kind of nickname and absolutely NOT Legend of Zelda, or lozenge, or anything else I tried to think of to get on my brother’s nerves. πŸ˜€
The blue star-like thing will have a blue LED under it and the small blue parts (mouse buttons) will have white LEDs. The mouse itself is a Razer DeathAdder that had somehow lost its top. It’s still being constructed very carefully, but my bro says I can take pictures when it’s all finished!

So that was pretty much what I did for the IHSW. Since then I’ve been able to make some progress on Rika and also finish up some secret gifts. I’ll show the gifts as soon as they are received, so for now here’s Rika.

Rika WIP 7

I’ve finished up on the black and started on some grey. More on this project soon.

Oh! Just realised there’s a couple of projects I haven’t posted about here yet! One is my first entry for the portrait challenge (can’t believe I forgot about that one!)

Black Mage Portrait

It’s a portrait of Black Mage…from the front. Bit of a cheeky entry! I hoped to make people laugh at it. It made me chuckle when I was stitching it!

Next, something my baba Ivy asked me for. She saw a picture of the Ice Climbers while I was browsing through my images looking for something to stitch and asked me to make it “into a tiny cushion”. So I did!

Ice Climbers

While she saw me stitching most of it, I finished it in secret and gave it to her for Christmas!

I have some other ideas cooking up at the minute, when I get some more time and more energy I’ll plan ’em all out and try to get started. Should be quite interesting. πŸ˜€

I’m back :)

I’ve been kinda silent for a while. Some of you may know already but in October I was struck down with a bad case of tonsillitis (really made my birthday suck!) and was basically out of action for a week +. When I got better it came back! 😦
While I was sick I tried to make things but only really ended up concentrating on Β a Black Mage costume for the Distant Worlds show in London on the 2nd November. I was still putting the finishing touches on the morning of the show! And I didn’t get to add all the extra bits I wanted to. My sister says she will get me some good cosplay pics, I’ll share those here as well as the other thing I managed to do (which is secret for now!)

Other than that, I haven’t been able to really do much, apart from help with the things going on at Sprite Stitch – challenges, mini-swap and the site’s 5th birthday celebrations! Oh and a bit of Skyrim for its 1st birthday πŸ˜€

So, I’m pretty much back up and running, and feeling the need to make things. Things need making! I have birthday presents, must finish that leaf thing for my mother (tonsillitis got in the way of that!) and I have a ton of ideas for my Etsy and for Christmas.

I missed last month’s IHSW so I’m making sure I do this month’s! My plan is to post on Friday with some of the things I want to do over the weekend, and post again on Monday/Tuesday with how far I got. That’s the plan, anyway – we’ll see how that goes!

Anyway, it’s good to be back around and I’ll be checking out everyone’s blogs soon to see what I’ve been missing! πŸ˜€

A little later than intended…

OK, a lot later. I didn’t mean to forget about posting, I’ve just been up to my neck in all kinds of projects! Very, very busy, as ever.
This post has quite a few images! πŸ˜€

This was a commission for a lovely, lovely guy on deviantART called Greg aka “TheChairSlayer”. He does the perler beads but found he couldn’t match the colours for this piece and requested it as a stitching instead! It is a Tarot card from Ogre Battle on the SNES, a long time favourite of his.
It is stitched on 16 ct hand dyed aida in “Barely Lime” (although it seems impossible to capture it in ANY photo) and wasΒ 3346 stitches in 14 colours. A very fun piece to work on!

Ahh, this. The elusive Ecco II square for the Sprite Stitch 2012 quilt. I took WIPs of this and kept forgetting to upload them to places…when I finally decided to get around to it the piece was finished!
This piece gave me some real trouble, as the stitching programs couldn’t seem to accept that there were more blues in the sea than they claimed. So I had to hand-draw quite a lot of the pattern! But I think it turned out quite nice.
9216 stitches in 22 colours on 16ct aida.

This is Axel Stone, my favourite character from Streets of Rage. He’s currently taped to my wall above my desk to remind me that he needs to be finished! (Of course, I can’t take the hint – he’s been there since February ^^;)
He’s on 14ct plastic canvas, and needs cutting out and backing…because I have a plan for this dude. When I get around to doing that, I’ll post him here πŸ˜€

This is a very small old-school style sprite of Prishe from FFXI. Nick showed me the sprite and told me to stitch it. He was joking, but I did it anyway, because I thought it was cute!
I don’t know who made the sprite, so I can’t give the appropriate credit, but if you are out there – thanks and good job! πŸ˜€
277 stitches in 22 colours on 16ct aida.

A lovely sprite of Young Ryu and Nina from Breath of Fire III. I love that game and it’s probably my favourite in the BoF series. I was looking for something brightly coloured and quick to do (as a break from Ecco!) so decided on this.
1060 stitches in 51 colours on 14ct pale lemon (I know, you can’t tell, but trust me it is!) aida.

Finally, here is a bunch of stuff that I gave to my sister Dolly for her birthday on March 10th. There is:

  • Lilac crocheted headband
  • Skyrim Dark Brotherhood birthday card
  • Can of “Old Fashioned Moustache Elixir”
  • Cross stitched Silent Hill 2 “9 save points” coaster
  • Cross stitched Faerie from Breath of Fire III
  • Cross stitched badge of my 8 bit version of “Azura’s Star” from Skyrim

I also gave her a bottled Nirnroot that I bought from a wonderful Etsy shop, PortalandPortkey. Please check out her items!

Well, I must get back to the stitching – currently working on my gifts for the Sprite Stitch “big” swap. I won’t be able to post anything about that until my partner receives the stuff. But I have a few other things I’m working on as well that I will be able to share. And it won’t be so long until the next post! πŸ˜€

Lots of stitching!

It’s been too long since I last posted something here. Life has been busy, personal stuff, stitching stuff, all kinds of stuff. But I have a whole bunch of stuff to share!

I got around to framing my Feena and Justin pieces, they are now up for sale in my Etsy shop.

Another Skyrim piece, also for Etsy (and to prevent loitering in general).

One more Shining Force III icon, a cute little thing called “Charm”!

A couple of gifts for people who (still) haven’t received their stuff in the mini-swap we at Sprite Stitch in September/October.

I’ve also completed a Streets of Rage piece, a retro-style FFXI piece and a Breath of Fire III piece, but don’t have good pictures of them yet (soon, I promise!) πŸ˜€

And I’m working on more stuff for my shop, a piece for the Sprite Stitch 2012 quilt (I’ll be putting WIPs of that up in the next week) and a commission piece!
So I shall be incredibly busy stitching!

Skyrim, Skyrim and more Skyrim.

Yes, I love Skyrim. Not many people I know don’t, to be honest. (That’s pretty much the reason I haven’t posted a lot recently!)
So of course I found a way to give some (more) cross stitchy love to my current favourite game! πŸ˜€

First – a quest marker fridge magnet:

And here it is on my little fridge!

Next – little marker badges!

And finally, the Married achievement icon!

Much more Skyrim to come, no doubt. πŸ˜€

The badges and the Married pattern, as well as my Shining Force III icons, are for sale on my shiny new Etsy shop! Yay!

Small pieces

Hello again all. Hope you had a lovely Christmas / Significant Holiday! πŸ˜›
Just a brief post with some new pieces, all small!

First, my entry into the Sprite Stitch mashup challenge!

Skyrim + LttP = very cheesy entry. But it was enjoyable to make! πŸ˜€

Next, my tree decorations from Shining Force III!

I’m putting felt backs on these now. I didn’t get around to it before Christmas as everyone in my house had the flu! I want to put icons like these in my Etsy shop, so I will be making more! πŸ˜€

More stuff for other people!

Seems like most of the pieces I’ve done this year have been for other people! But that’s ok, I love to give gifts and it’s nice to make other people happy! πŸ˜€
This time, birthday presents. For my superspecialawesome best friend Nick and his twin brother Alex (who is also a long-time friend). Their birthday was on 29th November and I worked my fingers off (in between sessions of Skyrim, of course) for two weeks to get some gifts made.

I gave the Samus and the Distant Worlds logo to Nick, and the Skyrim “Dragon Soul” achievement icon to Alex. Hope they liked them!

Having a few days rest from stitching before I go back to my current project, another Elder Scrolls themed piece! WIPs soon, I promise! πŸ˜€
