In Due Time

Today for Blogging 101, I must write a post based on a blogging prompt – I’ve picked In Due Time from WordPress’ Daily Post :

“What’s your next, most pressing deadline? Are you excited, stressed, or ambivalent about it? What’s the first thing you’d like to do once you’re done with it?”

I find myself flip flopping about deadlines, actually. I used to adore having a time limit, and found it could really get my thinksponge coming up with all sorts of ideas. These days, I don’t set myself as many, and the ones I have had recently have been fairly flexible.

My next deadline, is my younger sister’s birthday on March 10th. I’m not excited or stressed or even ambivalent about it, really! But I love to make things for others, especially requests, and the more unusual the better!
She asked me to stitch a couple of things for her and even offered to pay me my commission rate, but she is a good lass and has bailed me out of a few situations, so I thought I would make them for her birthday instead. I have the smaller piece finished and waiting to be framed, just the big piece to do now.
They are composite images made of sprites from a game called Fleshchild, which is a fan game based on another game called Yume Nikki.

Here’s the finished stitch of the character portrait of Visi, in her Doll form (it makes more sense when you know what the game is about!):

visi
Haha, it says “doll” and I call my sis “Dolly.”
I had to modify the sprite a bit, as the original had a plain background with a sort of snowy effect around the edges, but she wanted it to be more like the Vice character picture, with stripes. Easily done in Photoshop, then imported into PCStitch. I didn’t keep track of how long it took to stitch, but it’s fairly small so it wasn’t long – a few hours at most!

The big project is a lot larger in dimensions, but isn’t very complicated. It’s basically three red sprites on a black background, with a red border. I hope I have enough red!

“The first thing I’d like to do once I’m done with it?” Give them to their new owner and get the next project lined up!

Streets of Rage Portraits and FFVI Seraphim

Remember that Adam I had a WIP of in my last post (which was quite a while ago, I know) ? Well I went and finished it, as well as the two other characters, Axel and Blaze!

Streets of Rage Portraits

They’re not exactly finished, because they need a wash and a press before I figure out what to do with them. I may get one of those multi-photo frames for them, since it would be a shame to split them up!

I also completed this recently:

FFVI Seraphim

It’s Seraphim (or sometimes Sraphim) from Final Fantasy VI. I had a lot of difficulty getting the colours to look ok, but it turned out nice enough.

In other news: I signed up for KingCon 2015! So a huge chunk of my makes this year will be going there, and hopefully I will have a lot of wares!

Currently working on: Rapidash – will post progress soon.

Phantasy Star II – Nei

It has been such a long time since I started the Nei piece, I don’t even remember how long it’s been! I’ve put it aside so many times but I’m glad to say it’s finally finished!

Nei F Close

Phantasy Star II ~ Nei

She’s just waiting for a wash and iron now, after which I’ll measure up and start looking for a suitable frame.

So…I’m back to working on my Arena piece, as well as a few smaller things (to break up all those brown shades!) Will post progress soon!

KingCon 2014

KingCon, Durham City’s first geek convention, was on October 12th. I was super nervous but it turned out to be for no reason, as I had a great time and I did quite well! The thing I worried about most was not having enough stuff, but in the end I didn’t need to worry.
Here’s my stuff, all laid out on my bed the night before the con:

Some new stuff and a few older pieces too. Plenty of variety! Here’s my table at Durham’s Gala Theatre:

I ended up being so busy I couldn’t take any more pictures, but by the end of the day my table was looking very bare! My ever-popular mushroom magnets did well, as did the Pokeball badges. I said goodbye to the Phoenix, Snorlax/Tails and Alisia Dragoon, as well as the majority of the small stitchings. I also sold some of my handmade jewellery too!
There were two things that happened that were really awesome. First, I ran out of business cards, which I can only assume is good. Hope some custom work comes my way from that! The other thing is that when people approached my table and saw that the items were actually stitched, they would smile and say things like “that’s so cool” and “awesome”. I always worry that people won’t like what I stitch but I’m glad I made what I did as they were quite popular!

Anyway, that was KingCon, my first foray into the world of conventions. I’m really looking forward to doing another one, but first I have a load of jewellery to make for a couple of fairs I’m doing with my friend Lynn. Will be posting about my jewellery soon, as well as my finished Nei!

FFV Phoenix

I didn’t get around to making my IHSW report, but I kept working on Phoenix and it’s now finished! Here it is, before washing.

FFV Phoenix

I will upload better pictures of this and the other FFV sprites when they are washed, ironed and framed. It won’t be too long, because they are coming with me on Oct 12th to Durham’s first ever geek/nerd/comic convention, KingCon! I’ve been working on stuff for it for a while and hope to post about it very soon. 🙂

Late reports (again!) – WIPocalypse and IHSW April

Yep, late with my WIPocalypse and IHSW reports again. Couldn’t be helped though! Anyway, I thought I’d better update you all with what I did.

I combined a goal from my WIPocalypse list with April’s IHSW and worked like crazy on Rika. Here she is before the IHSW:

Rika WIP 14

And here she is after it:

Rika WIP 15

But I didn’t stop there, oh no. Here is what she looks like now:

Rika Finished

ALL DONE! Well, I’m not sure if I should add a small black border around her or not, but I’ll think about that for a while. It’ll be ages before the whole project is completed! But for now, I can cross this one off my WIP List!

And it’s May now, so the next WIPocalypse post and IHSW weekend aren’t far off at all. I am going to keep the promise I made to myself from now on – I will blog regularly!
On the project front, I have Nei and Arena to work on, as well as the pile of thank you gifts I need to make. My charity squares as well. Oh, and the Sonic Bedroom too. I also have to get started on a wedding gift for my neighbour and organise the Sprite Stitch swap…the list is pretty much endless. 🙂

Toodles!

February IHSW Report

Has it already been a month since the last one? Eh, I have trouble remembering it’s February and it’s almost March!
Anyway, another month (almost) down and another IHSW too. I didn’t do a lot, on account of having a stomach illness and then some kind of throat infection (I get a lot of these). I was going to stitch Rika as I had wanted it completed by the end of Feb but…well, she has gone missing. I have been moving a lot of stuff around now that Ivy has her own bedroom and so it’s probably under or inside something that I can’t get to right now. So I did a little work on my Arena project (little being the key word here) instead:

Arena_3

Arena_3b

And that has been pretty much it for this IHSW! Perhaps next month I won’t be so unwell and can do more!

Toodles!

IHSW March

Late again…but you should all expect that from me by now!

I’ve been rather tired lately (more than usual) so I didn’t do a lot for the IHSW, but what I did do was work on my Nei piece a little more. I really want to get it finished soon.

Here’s where I’m at with it:

Nei WIP 14

As you may be able to see, I’ve started to add in the mid-purple tone of the hair. My phone’s camera doesn’t distinguish between the darker purple and the blue aida very well, so hopefully once the rest of the purples are in it’ll look a bit better photo-wise. It’s already looking much better in real life!

So, yes. Not a lot of progress, but some is better than none, right? 😀

I plan to do some stitching this week, some entries for the latest Sprite Stitch challenge, “minimalism” – they should be really quick to make! I will also be grabbing some other pics of recent things to post at the weekend. 🙂

Hope everyone enjoyed their IHSWs, I’ll be touring your blogs shortly to see what you’ve been up to! 😀

Oops! :)

This is totally the tomorrow I meant. 😀
I’m really sorry! I’ll be honest, I haven’t much felt like posting, or doing a lot of anything recently. But I did promise a report on February’s IHSW, so let me start with that!

I spent most of the IHSW weekend working on my second entry for the Portrait challenge over at Sprite Stitch. I kind of neglected to take photos at the right times over the IHSW to show my progress…but I’m happy to say the portrait is now finished so let me show you that instead! 😀

Valena ~Skyrim~

This is my Skyrim character, Valena. Or as I’m now calling her, Creepyface. Her face has been watching me for several days as she’s been coming together and has given me a few scares in the night!
Ahem…anyway, she’s 14,411 (I think) stitches and 38 colours. She’s in an 8×10″ frame which I have painted black with red trim, for those of you that are in the know regarding Elder Scrolls it was meant to look sort of Daedric-y 🙂
I’m very pleased it’s finally finished though. I wanted to do something unusual for the challenge.

I also worked on something else unusual. My brother got an idea in his head to customise a mouse for a friend and wanted me to stitch the top piece. He did a design and I gave him plastic canvas, which he cut to shape. So I stitched the design for him, here it is:

LOZ Mouse

It says “Loz”, which is some kind of nickname and absolutely NOT Legend of Zelda, or lozenge, or anything else I tried to think of to get on my brother’s nerves. 😀
The blue star-like thing will have a blue LED under it and the small blue parts (mouse buttons) will have white LEDs. The mouse itself is a Razer DeathAdder that had somehow lost its top. It’s still being constructed very carefully, but my bro says I can take pictures when it’s all finished!

So that was pretty much what I did for the IHSW. Since then I’ve been able to make some progress on Rika and also finish up some secret gifts. I’ll show the gifts as soon as they are received, so for now here’s Rika.

Rika WIP 7

I’ve finished up on the black and started on some grey. More on this project soon.

Oh! Just realised there’s a couple of projects I haven’t posted about here yet! One is my first entry for the portrait challenge (can’t believe I forgot about that one!)

Black Mage Portrait

It’s a portrait of Black Mage…from the front. Bit of a cheeky entry! I hoped to make people laugh at it. It made me chuckle when I was stitching it!

Next, something my baba Ivy asked me for. She saw a picture of the Ice Climbers while I was browsing through my images looking for something to stitch and asked me to make it “into a tiny cushion”. So I did!

Ice Climbers

While she saw me stitching most of it, I finished it in secret and gave it to her for Christmas!

I have some other ideas cooking up at the minute, when I get some more time and more energy I’ll plan ’em all out and try to get started. Should be quite interesting. 😀

IHSW January and Stuff

Hello again everyone! How are you all?
I’m sorry I haven’t been posting (again) – those of you that know me will know about my health problems of late and my lack of mojo. I am trying to do more, though and what better way to get back in to your craft than the IHSW? 😀

I can’t actually remember what I did on Friday, so I’ll go straight to Saturday!

First of all, I worked on Nei. Because she hasn’t been out in a while and I felt like she deserved some attention.

Before IHSW:

Nei WIP 12

After IHSW:

Nei WIP 13

It’s kind of hard to see but I did a good amount of the dark purple-ish colour in her hair.

Next, Rika from PSIV. I actually started this over a week ago, when I received my new fabby from DoveStitch. But I used a couple of hours in the IHSW to do a little bit more to her.

Before IHSW:

Rika WIP 3

After IHSW:

Rika WIP 4

Didn’t do a lot, but it was mostly just to have something else to work on. I have a WIP thread at Sprite Stitch following this project, with my new buddy Lileya, who is doing something extremely similar! Please check it out at http://www.spritestitch.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=10797 and follow our progress! 😀

And finally, Sunday’s work – a piece for the latest Sprite Stitch challenge, Portraits! It’ll be my second entry, the first being a mini-portrait of Black Mage (which I’ll add to a later post, but for now you can see it here). I’ll let you guess what/who it might be!

Before IHSW:

SR_Val_1

And after IHSW:

SR_Val_2

This is proving to be an interesting piece to work on, and I’ve done more since this photo was taken! Will keep you all up to date on this project and the others.

I am also working on some make-up gifts for people who missed out in the last swap on Sprite Stitch. They are small, so I hope they’ll be done and sent out shortly. I’ll be able to show those soon, along with all the other little bits I’ve done recently (not much before this month, I grant you, but worth showing anyway :D)

So I think I had a pretty good start to the stitchy year. As always, please feel free to leave comments, good or bad! 😀
