Another bunch of new stuff!

Wow, it has been a while, hasn’t it? My poor blog has been neglected due to Life and its many distractions. One of those being stitching, naturally. Stitching really helps me when things are tough (and things have been really  tough lately.)
So, I have a bunch of new things to share! (Some of these are already up on my Facebook page, so apologies if you’ve already seen some!)

First, my current project – Sword Kirby!
IMG_20150428_210542 IMG_20150510_214226I’ve been working on this piece on and off over the past couple of weeks, although I’ve taken breaks to work on other things (including the current Sprite Stitch stitch-a-long, more on that another time!) It’s a lot larger than it appears, since every “pixel” is a block of four stitches. I’m *this* close to it being done, though!

Next, four projects that were completed a while ago.

new_4Here we have a Link to the Past stitch (it’s a cut-down version of an after-boss scene); a Samus suit diagram from Super Metroid; a fiery Rapidash sprite and a cute Purrloin.

Finally, a cute Mario Kart image, done as a favour for a friend.

I actually have about four other pieces in progress at the minute but will post about them when I’m done with Kirby. Hopefully Life won’t interrupt me again!

Sprite Stitch Challenges

I know, I’m terrible at blogging. I’ve gotten rather lazy about it (like many things) and if I wasn’t putting it off I was forgetting it. But here I am now with a small roundup of some of the things I’ve finished in the past few months.

I’m going to start with my Skyrim quilt square. I meant to post some progress on this for the IHSW recently but…eh. Anyway, I have since finished and sent it! So, here’s a picture. 🙂

Shrine of Azura ~Skyrim~

It was the only square I could manage this year unfortunately (due to my illness among other things), but I made several patterns for other people to use.

Now, a collection of my recent Sprite Stitch challenge entries.

March – Minimalism

Ecco the Dolphin Minimalist

Super Metroid Minimalist

These are Ecco and Super Metroid. I went super minimalist with my two small entries. I really wanted to show how minimalist you could go – the Ecco one is the best example of that!

April – Sampler Stitch-A-Long

Sprite Stitch Band Sampler

Sampler Shot 2

We had so much fun with this. We all designed bands, which were voted on – the top ten were put into my Hat and three were selected with Random magic. The last band was our own choice out of all the ones entered. I think we actually ended up with over 100 designs!
The final bands were: Super Mario Kart, DDR and Journey. We stitched one per week, and used any extra time to add borders and things. In the last week I chose a Mystic Quest band designed by merrywether, finished up my border and stitched personal things in between the bands. They sort of ended up as bands themselves! One of my favourite projects to do and it turned out nicely. 🙂

May – Black Mage Holiday

BMH on holiday

I left the challenge for May in the capable hands of my good friend starrley while I had a holiday, and the challenge was all about that. Where would a Black Mage go on holiday? What would s/he do? There were some awesome entries and I loved all of them. I wasn’t planning to enter but at the end of the challenge I got dressed up in my Black Mage outfit (that I made for the FF concert back in November) and snoozed under my Hat. So, this is me on holiday!

June/July – Colouring Book

Akatosh Sequin Art

The main reason I took a “holiday” was to set up this challenge. It wasn’t easy to get together a bunch of images and make them into outlines but I think I did alright. There were images from Zelda, Pokemon, Portal and more. I really wanted to do something different so I used the Akatosh symbol from Elder Scrolls and went mad with sequins. The result is what you see above. Over 2000 gloriously dazzling laser hologram sequins! Very fun to do, if somewhat fiddly when it comes to sewing them on, but I’d love to do more!

And that’s it so far. The current challenge for August is all about bling, so if I have time I may whip something up. I have plenty of UFOs to pick up too! I also have to prepare for next month, when it’s time again for the Mini Swap! 🙂

Thank you for reading (if you made it this far) and hopefully it won’t be too long until my next post! 🙂

More stuff for other people!

Seems like most of the pieces I’ve done this year have been for other people! But that’s ok, I love to give gifts and it’s nice to make other people happy! 😀
This time, birthday presents. For my superspecialawesome best friend Nick and his twin brother Alex (who is also a long-time friend). Their birthday was on 29th November and I worked my fingers off (in between sessions of Skyrim, of course) for two weeks to get some gifts made.

I gave the Samus and the Distant Worlds logo to Nick, and the Skyrim “Dragon Soul” achievement icon to Alex. Hope they liked them!

Having a few days rest from stitching before I go back to my current project, another Elder Scrolls themed piece! WIPs soon, I promise! 😀

Stitching for charity!

Over at Sprite Stitch recently was a discussion on possible charitable projects. Eventually, it was decided that we would make a quilt, with each of us submitting squares to be stitched together. We got a lot of people signing up, so that quilt then became three – a Zelda quilt, a Final Fantasy quilt and a miscellaneous one.

We’re well past the ideas stage and I think that most people have got their patterns sorted – some of us have started work on the squares. Now, I put down ideas for nine squares, that’s three for each quilt:

Top row (misc quilt): Alis from Phantasy Star, Shining Force and Super Metroid;
Middle row (FF quilt): FFX Shiva, FFVIII Rinoa and Cactuar;
Bottom row (Zelda quilt): Golden Goddesses, OoT Great Fairy and LTTP Fairies.

I thought it would be hard to get images to fit the size we all need, which is 96×96 stitches, but by chance I had a lot of good pics that size or similar on my PC – I just had to choose some! I also tried to pick games and pictures that meant something to me personally 🙂

Still not too sure about the third column there, and I do have more images ready to be made into squares. I’ll see how it goes! On to progress!!

Damn those energy-saving bulbs! It actually looks a lot brighter than this in daylight. Ah well. This Alis square is going really well, but I can’t finish it until my new stock of colours arrive. So, before I run out of black, I thought I’d make a start on my next one:

Not much to see here, but there’s the beginnings of the Shining Force square.

Work is ongoing, of course, so I hope to update very soon with more on this great collaboration 😀 For more infos on the project, please check out the thread on Sprite Stitch to see how we’re progressing!

Samus stitching

samusaran

I recently re-discovered this while moving some stuff about in my room. For those of you that may not know, it’s Samus Aran from the Metroid series. I found the sprite for it somewhere on the internet a few years back. The file name says “Samus SNK Style by Shoba”, so some credit should go to that person and I hope they didn’t mind me borrowing it 🙂
