Sprite Stitch Challenges

I know, I’m terrible at blogging. I’ve gotten rather lazy about it (like many things) and if I wasn’t putting it off I was forgetting it. But here I am now with a small roundup of some of the things I’ve finished in the past few months.

I’m going to start with my Skyrim quilt square. I meant to post some progress on this for the IHSW recently but…eh. Anyway, I have since finished and sent it! So, here’s a picture. πŸ™‚

Shrine of Azura ~Skyrim~

It was the only square I could manage this year unfortunately (due to my illness among other things), but I made several patterns for other people to use.

Now, a collection of my recent Sprite Stitch challenge entries.

March – Minimalism

Ecco the Dolphin Minimalist

Super Metroid Minimalist

These are Ecco and Super Metroid. I went super minimalist with my two small entries. I really wanted to show how minimalist you could go – the Ecco one is the best example of that!

April – Sampler Stitch-A-Long

Sprite Stitch Band Sampler

Sampler Shot 2

We had so much fun with this. We all designed bands, which were voted on – the top ten were put into my Hat and three were selected with Random magic. The last band was our own choice out of all the ones entered. I think we actually ended up with over 100 designs!
The final bands were: Super Mario Kart, DDR and Journey. We stitched one per week, and used any extra time to add borders and things. In the last week I chose a Mystic Quest band designed by merrywether, finished up my border and stitched personal things in between the bands. They sort of ended up as bands themselves! One of my favourite projects to do and it turned out nicely. πŸ™‚

May – Black Mage Holiday

BMH on holiday

I left the challenge for May in the capable hands of my good friend starrley while I had a holiday, and the challenge was all about that. Where would a Black Mage go on holiday? What would s/he do? There were some awesome entries and I loved all of them. I wasn’t planning to enter but at the end of the challenge I got dressed up in my Black Mage outfit (that I made for the FF concert back in November) and snoozed under my Hat. So, this is me on holiday!

June/July – Colouring Book

Akatosh Sequin Art

The main reason I took a “holiday” was to set up this challenge. It wasn’t easy to get together a bunch of images and make them into outlines but I think I did alright. There were images from Zelda, Pokemon, Portal and more. I really wanted to do something different so I used the Akatosh symbol from Elder Scrolls and went mad with sequins. The result is what you see above. Over 2000 gloriously dazzling laser hologram sequins! Very fun to do, if somewhat fiddly when it comes to sewing them on, but I’d love to do more!

And that’s it so far. The current challenge for August is all about bling, so if I have time I may whip something up. I have plenty of UFOs to pick up too! I also have to prepare for next month, when it’s time again for the Mini Swap! πŸ™‚

Thank you for reading (if you made it this far) and hopefully it won’t be too long until my next post! πŸ™‚

Oops! :)

This is totally the tomorrow I meant. πŸ˜€
I’m really sorry! I’ll be honest, I haven’t much felt like posting, or doing a lot of anything recently. But I did promise a report on February’s IHSW, so let me start with that!

I spent most of the IHSW weekend working on my second entry for the Portrait challenge over at Sprite Stitch. I kind of neglected to take photos at the right times over the IHSW to show my progress…but I’m happy to say the portrait is now finished so let me show you that instead! πŸ˜€

Valena ~Skyrim~

This is my Skyrim character, Valena. Or as I’m now calling her, Creepyface. Her face has been watching me for several days as she’s been coming together and has given me a few scares in the night!
Ahem…anyway, she’s 14,411 (I think) stitches and 38 colours. She’s in an 8×10″ frame which I have painted black with red trim, for those of you that are in the know regarding Elder Scrolls it was meant to look sort of Daedric-y πŸ™‚
I’m very pleased it’s finally finished though. I wanted to do something unusual for the challenge.

I also worked on something else unusual. My brother got an idea in his head to customise a mouse for a friend and wanted me to stitch the top piece. He did a design and I gave him plastic canvas, which he cut to shape. So I stitched the design for him, here it is:

LOZ Mouse

It says “Loz”, which is some kind of nickname and absolutely NOT Legend of Zelda, or lozenge, or anything else I tried to think of to get on my brother’s nerves. πŸ˜€
The blue star-like thing will have a blue LED under it and the small blue parts (mouse buttons) will have white LEDs. The mouse itself is a Razer DeathAdder that had somehow lost its top. It’s still being constructed very carefully, but my bro says I can take pictures when it’s all finished!

So that was pretty much what I did for the IHSW. Since then I’ve been able to make some progress on Rika and also finish up some secret gifts. I’ll show the gifts as soon as they are received, so for now here’s Rika.

Rika WIP 7

I’ve finished up on the black and started on some grey. More on this project soon.

Oh! Just realised there’s a couple of projects I haven’t posted about here yet! One is my first entry for the portrait challenge (can’t believe I forgot about that one!)

Black Mage Portrait

It’s a portrait of Black Mage…from the front. Bit of a cheeky entry! I hoped to make people laugh at it. It made me chuckle when I was stitching it!

Next, something my baba Ivy asked me for. She saw a picture of the Ice Climbers while I was browsing through my images looking for something to stitch and asked me to make it “into a tiny cushion”. So I did!

Ice Climbers

While she saw me stitching most of it, I finished it in secret and gave it to her for Christmas!

I have some other ideas cooking up at the minute, when I get some more time and more energy I’ll plan ’em all out and try to get started. Should be quite interesting. πŸ˜€

I’m back :)

I’ve been kinda silent for a while. Some of you may know already but in October I was struck down with a bad case of tonsillitis (really made my birthday suck!) and was basically out of action for a week +. When I got better it came back! 😦
While I was sick I tried to make things but only really ended up concentrating on Β a Black Mage costume for the Distant Worlds show in London on the 2nd November. I was still putting the finishing touches on the morning of the show! And I didn’t get to add all the extra bits I wanted to. My sister says she will get me some good cosplay pics, I’ll share those here as well as the other thing I managed to do (which is secret for now!)

Other than that, I haven’t been able to really do much, apart from help with the things going on at Sprite Stitch – challenges, mini-swap and the site’s 5th birthday celebrations! Oh and a bit of Skyrim for its 1st birthday πŸ˜€

So, I’m pretty much back up and running, and feeling the need to make things. Things need making! I have birthday presents, must finish that leaf thing for my mother (tonsillitis got in the way of that!) and I have a ton of ideas for my Etsy and for Christmas.

I missed last month’s IHSW so I’m making sure I do this month’s! My plan is to post on Friday with some of the things I want to do over the weekend, and post again on Monday/Tuesday with how far I got. That’s the plan, anyway – we’ll see how that goes!

Anyway, it’s good to be back around and I’ll be checking out everyone’s blogs soon to see what I’ve been missing! πŸ˜€

Sprite Stitch Swap 2012

Time for a report on the “big” swap we have had over at Sprite Stitch. This post is gonna be pretty image heavy!

I received my gifts a couple of weeks ago, from “msstitcher”. They are really awesome! πŸ˜€

She made me a Black Mage bag, a Phantasy Star Online biscornu and a hanging ornament with a forum “joke” stitched on the front (about me and my warp-speed stitching – something I will have to share here on the blog sometime!). Here’s some more pictures!

msstitcher also included some Mario Kart sweeties and a hand-drawn card! πŸ˜€

OK, on to what I’ve beenΒ dying to share with everyone for months…the gifts I made for “starrley”! Here’s the full set of stuff, first.

I made her a Harvest Moon farm set, a Pokemon stitching, a little pouch and a painted card. I also included some Earl Grey tea and Cadbury’s chocolate.
Time for more pictures!

The Harvest Moon set. The base, the 24 crops, the house and all the figures are fully cross stitched. The figures are double sided and glued on to British coins (which I spray painted black to look like the shadows of the sprites). The crops sit on right angled (sort of) stands made of wool mix felt stitched on to plastic canvas squares. The house is actually a box that holds the crops and stands when not in use. And finally the base is one full plastic canvas sheet completely stitched with a semi-custom tileset (that bit was the hardest, I think!)
Here’s another angle:

You can see the reverse sides of the farmer and animals, and also how the stands work πŸ™‚
Whole project is 30,600 stitches and I don’t really know how many colours! πŸ˜€

Next, starrley’s favourite Pokemon.

She made a list of her favourite Pokemon, but I couldn’t choose which one I wanted to stitch so I did all ten! They are on sparkly aida (it has lurex in the weave) and it’s stitched onto felt. Wasn’t quite sure what to do with it so left it at that, I’m sure starrley will do something with it! πŸ˜€

The pouch.

This was a last-minute thing I made (literally the night before posting). I got this idea in my head to do something Star Trek. I was watching TNG and Picard was getting his tea…I was going to send some anyway and so this tea pouch was born! I cross stitched the words on to some dark blue aida, stitched it on to some felt and did some blanket stitch up the sides. Then I stuffed it full of Twinings Earl Grey tea bags. Perfect for a TNG fan! πŸ˜€

And finally the card (plus some bonus artwork from Ivy).

On starrley’s deviantART profile it says that Alphonse Mucha is one of her favourite artists (one of mine too, as it happens) and she had said in her swap info that she liked Erika from Pokemon. So I drew this, based on a combination of her HeartGold / SoulSilver sprite and some artwork, chucked in a few Mucha-esque elements and painted it up. I probably could have done better, maybe if I hadn’t tried to go as fast as possible! And Ivy’s picture is a smiley starrley with her name written underneath (it’s supposed to say China, although she wobbled on the C)

And that was the swap for me! πŸ˜€

Next, moar stuff for the craft fair. Lots moar. Next week is IHSW July, so hopefully I will get lots done! And I need to, because I have…let’s call him a guest…staying with me for a few days next week, and it’d just beΒ rude to be stitching all the time when…other things could be going on. If you get my meaning. πŸ˜‰
ANYWAY…will definitely have some more stuff for you soon, and possibly BEFORE the IHSW! πŸ˜€

Sprite Stitch Mini Swap 2011 ~ Part One!

Part one because I’ve just sent my gifts out today, and also received some! (Part two will happen when my gifts arrive at their new home, of course.)
Isabelle, otherwise known as Craftymaster90, sent me two lovely stitchings as part of the mini craft swap.

First, this gorgeous version of the dragon symbol from The Elder Scrolls series.

She also sent me this lovely FFX Lulu, which she designed from scratch!

I can’t tell you how much I love these two pieces!
Isabelle is leaving it to me to frame / finish these however I wish, and I hope I’ll come up with something equally as wonderful as they are!

Please check out Isabelle’s other works on her deviantART – http://izzyxiii.deviantart.com/Β .

Catching up (or trying to, at least)

I can’t believe it’s nearly the end of October already. Seems like only yesterday that I was working on the Diglett/Dugtrio thing… I guess time really doesn’t wait for anyone πŸ™‚

Let me deal with all the stuff that’s been going on since my old PC sailed off to oblivion. Of course, there was the alphabet challenge. I didn’t win (didn’t really expect to though lol), but I shared second place with riotpatch – we both got 20% of the votes each – and first place went to Sprite Stitch member “supermarkio”, congrats! Check out the final entries here.

Next up is the September mini-swap. My secret partner was “ezsebeth” from Belgium, who likes Pokemon. So I made her a hussif (a sewing pouch with goodies in) with Dragonite on the front.

Pictures taken by ezsebeth.

I think it could have gone better, but my sewing machine decided if my PC wasn’t going to work then it was going on strike. So, I ended up stitching the lot by hand! I also included goodies, such as pins, needles, scissors and things like that (I got a small sewing kit from the local supermarket and raided it :D). I hope ezsebeth likes it and can use it πŸ™‚

My swap gift was from “stephaniem” – how she ever guessed what I hoped to get I’ll never know lol. She gave me this :

A Black Mage [heart] bookmark! I read a lot, but I didn’t have a bookmark, and never got around to making one for myself (I basically just tried to remember where I was up to in a book, with limited success). The visual representation of my user name is great and I love the colours. So, thankyou stephaniem!!

I think I’ll leave it there for today (don’t want to make this post too long and bloaty), but I will continue tomorrow with more of my recent works in progress and other news.

Yay! Alphabet! (JUL/AUG Challenge)

It’s that time again…and I’m not talking about female cycles here. I mean the creativity fest that is a Sprite Stitch Challenge! This time, it’s all about the alphabet. I considered doing my username until I counted the letters in it…too many! So, I went for this instead:

B is for Black Mage πŸ˜€

Been reading into various styles of stitching and needlework recently and was inspired by Assisi embroidery to make the wall hanging you see here. Assisi work involves stitching the background of a piece and leaving the main motif blank.

I decided to make it into a wall hanging instead of just framing it this time, mostly because I didn’t have a nice enough frame for it. So I made some twisted cord out of luxe wool and stitched it on πŸ™‚

The current challenge ends on 31st August, and the entries I’ve seen so far are great. I’m particularly looking forward to seeing riotpatch‘s entry as she’s using sprites from the Card Gallery (which can be found at http://cardgallery.tales-tra.com/main.htm ).

Coming soon: September’s Mini Swap – Oblivion WIP – Techie stitching – and hopefully more πŸ™‚

Final Fantasy XI Prime Elements (Stitch-a-long project finished!!)

So… it’s finally finished. Took a lot longer than I thought but I’ve had so many distractions lately lol. I finished the background and filled in the centre of the chart with white, I figured simple was the best way to go (also lots less work for me!). I also did a little 1 strand border around the letters in DMC jewel effects colours – it doesn’t show up well on the camera though 😦

It’s now stapled to a board ready for framing, hopefully that will be sometime soon (along with the ever growing pile of stuff that needs framing!)

I’d like to take this chance to thank Sprite Stitch for having the stitch-a-long, and to congratulate everyone that is taking part!

On to the next project!!

ViviΒ papercraft

My first attempt at a difficult papercraft. It didn’t turn out quite right, but I’m happy with it anyway. I downloaded the model from Chamoo232’s Papercraft Archive, which has lots of nice models to try and some links to other papercraft sites πŸ™‚

Black Mages…ofΒ course!

As you might have guessed, I love mages and especially black ones. These ones are the party from Final Fantasy 5 in their black mage forms πŸ™‚ I have also done a white version of this and hope to be sharing it on here soon!
